Tips for visiting Wadi Rum in Jordan

The Wadi Rum desert in Jordan is one of the most beautiful deserts in the world. Unlike many other deserts, Wadi Rum is much more than just a sand desert. The rugged landscape with its large sandstone rock formations makes you feel like you’re on another planet. Wadi Rum is nicknamed “The Valley of the Moon” for good reason. Just like Petra, Nabataeans once lived here. Some rock carvings, inscriptions, and ruins from those times can still be seen. A few Bedouin people still live in Wadi Rum today. Hop in a jeep and explore the desert, then spend the night in a traditional Bedouin tent in the middle of the desert. Here are all our tips for an amazing time in Wadi Rum.

Take a 4×4 jeep tour

There are several ways to explore Wadi Rum, but the best way is with a 4×4 jeep tour. This way, you can visit many different places in a single day. You can choose to join a group tour or book a private one. A private tour is, of course, more expensive. At each stop, you’ll have plenty of time to take photos and enjoy all the beauty. You don’t need to book a tour in advance. You can explore the different options upon arrival at your camp or Wadi Rum Village.

This is how parking works at Wadi Rum

If you’re traveling in Jordan with a rental car, you must park it in Wadi Rum Village when visiting Wadi Rum. The parking lot is located right at the beginning, on the right, next to the Wadi Rum Rest House. From there, someone from your pre-booked Bedouin camp will pick you up and continue your journey into the desert with them. There are always plenty of locals at the parking lot who can help you call your hotel to let them know you’re there.
